What are court reporting services?

Court reporting services include a number of methods used to prepare a verbatim record of a judicial proceeding or a discovery proceeding.

How is a record prepared?
•  A verbatim record is prepared through trained professionals using stenographic equipment, computer aided transcription (including real-time transcription), or stenomask equipment.  A verbatim record may also be prepared from an electronic recording of a proceeding.

What proceedings need to be recorded?
•  All criminal and juvenile proceedings and any other judicial proceeding required to be reported by court rule of law.
•  Any judicial or discovery proceeding, upon the request of any party.
•  Testimony in grand jury proceedings (other parts of grand jury proceedings, including deliberations and voting, are not reported).

Costs of court reporting.
•  Judicial proceedings for criminal and juvenile cases are reported at public expense.
•  Other judicial and discovery proceedings are reported at the expense of the party requesting the reporting service.
