Court Reporting

The Circuit Court Reporters maintain an office in each of the four counties which make up the First Judicial Circuit (Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton Counties).  Our offices are open daily, Monday through Friday, excluding court holidays.

At the request of the Court, each office is responsible for reporting or recording proceedings in the following types of cases:  Criminal (felony and misdemeanor), domestic violence, family court dependency and delinquency, general magistrate and child support hearing officer matters, Baker Act and some guardianship matters.  We do not report proceedings in any civil cases, traffic infractions or family law (divorce).  We do not report depositions, nor do we have records for or the ability to transcribe depositions.

Our methods of reporting include the use of stenographers, as well as analog and digital recording, from all of which we are able to prepare typewritten verbatim transcripts.  Transcripts are not automatically produced.  They are produced when (1) ordered by a judge, (2) upon written request by an attorney, or (3) upon written request by any interested party and financial arrangements have been made for payment of the transcript.

The cost of a transcript is based on the number of pages and the whether the transcript production must be expedited.  The number of pages depends upon the length of the proceeding held.  (A close estimate of pages can be calculated at nearly one page per minute of a proceeding; for example, 1 hour will yield approximately 60 pages.)  An indigent defendant in a criminal case may request a transcript be provided at state expense, but we can only produce a transcript at state expense when ordered to do so by a judge.
